The topic below is NOT updated for 4.0
but still remain reliable on many points!
I finally found the inspiration to write this topic. It's a long post that ask you to go deeper in what you usually do. It for sure requires to know the basics of the class but more than that, a good practice to get the best of it. As I said on another post, healing is not an exact science and especially as a restoration druid. Moreover Cataclysm is coming and it's important to keep track of what is/was our gameplay in WotLK to have a better understanding and adaptation to the incoming changes.
When you did the healing job for a long time, you have witnessed all the changes and you know the feeling of healing in a raid. It changes with patches, fixes, gear inflation and encounter design but through those changes, you adapt.
Obviously I myself could say "Come on, I just log in, spam my buttons, focus on my raid frames and we are all done. What you say is just philosophic bullshit". Yes it is but in hindsight, take a close look at healing from attempt to attempt on bosses. They are never the same. Sometimes raid damages were absurdly high and you managed to keep everyone alive, sometimes damages were ok but everyone died, healing went wrong. Unlike you could think, it's not always because of healers but often because of how the encounter called for healing.
Whatever class you play, the most enjoyable thing a healer could experience is the way you can feel your heals. At some point during an encounter you feel your healing is here and effectively heal people, keeping them alive. Sometimes you feel overwhelmed by damages or in late.
Unfortunately like most of druid related websites, forums and blogs, I will have to link the notions explained to healing meters, but I want you to keep in mind that the main objective of this topic is to help you discover and/or multiply these good feelings. If you already know all those concepts you will easily understand why I enjoy healing every day more!
Hopefully, this post is not full of psychological ideas but also explore real spell combinations to respond to all situations. It tries to be closely link to real applications more than to find the average way to apply to every encounter.
Some points may be treated twice in different subsections because they cover more than one theme. This post is centered on 25 man raid but once you manage to perfectly play in 25 man, 10 man is a piece of cake.
